Picasso's Plaster Portraits (7th - 12th Grade)

In the early 1930s Pablo Picasso returned to sculptural modeling after a break of some twenty years.  Picasso is my favorite artist in the respect that he worked feverishly in nearly every medium, creating techniques, styles, even movements of art in his wake.  His mastery was mostly in his ability to play, and to experiment freely with his ideas.  That is a permission that many of us do not allow ourselves.  I hope I can offer that to the students who take this class.

Picasso built many of these works by gluing, tying, or welding together found objects, and then sculpting form over the top of them with plaster.  Students will attempt to emulate one of these sculptures in the style of Picasso as they learn to mix the perfect batch of plaster, sketch, plan, and connect 2D and 3D ideas.  Students will add a whole new set of tools to their artistic endeavor!

I am so excited to offer this insight into the artistic process! Please join us!
