Andy Warhol's POP Art! (7th - 12th Grade)

Pop Art has become one of the most recognized styles of art in history, but what exactly is it?  Led by artist Andy Warhol, artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, and Robert Rauschenberg challenged the classical definition of art with a style of art that was for everyone!  It was about popular culture.

POP ART!

Andy, stricken at an early age with a rare neurological disease, found solace and calm in popular celebrity magazines, and DC comics.  As his art became well known in the 1960s, the images of Elvis, Campbell's Soup cans, bananas, and Timex watches seemed to celebrate the very things that made him happy in his youth.  They were images of true American culture, and they became iconic.

This is a chance for our students to gather the American culture that has become OUR "popular"; Number 2 pencils, Pringles, and video games.  These fun acrylic paintings include studies in package design, lettering styles, drawing cubes and cylinders, and of course color mixing.

Join us and perhaps you will experience YOUR 15 minutes of fame!
