Claes Oldenburg would be considered a Pop Art sculptor. Many of you have seen his enormous baseball bat rising to the sky in downtown Chicago. He based his art on a fascination with scale, and changes in the significance of everyday or popular objects when enlarged to monumental proportions. Oldenburg's humor is heightened as these objects are placed, out of proportion, into grand cityscapes. The juxtaposition always interrupts our thoughts of the day, and makes us rethink! The artist's job!
In this class, we will experiment with scale to draw artistic attention to an object that we all know very well...THE FISHING LURE!
Students will choose a lure of interest, and , after removing dangerous hooks, will use math to enlarge its measurements. Planned out, we begin to paper mache' and paint these brightly colored, magical lures into hanging sculptures. At ten times their normal size, these artworks will definitely turn heads!
Please join us and explore one of the masters of modern art as we know it!
